ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Fifty years later, a conference is being held
this weekend in Ann Arbor to recall a time of unusual lights, floating
discs and other UFOs in southern Michigan.
In March 1966, there were reports of strange sights from Ann Arbor to Hillsdale. Students at Hillsdale College said a UFO had landed on a softball field. In Washtenaw County, police rushed to a swampy area after being told of a UFO.
The Detroit Free Press (http://on.freep.com/22gFfCX ) says the U.S. Air Force determined it was all related to "marsh gas" or "swamp gas." That didn't close the controversy.
William Konkolesky, state director of the Mutual UFO Network, says "we're no closer to understanding it."
The conference will be held Saturday at the Wyndham Garden hotel in Ann Arbor.
