V-2 Rockets In Australia? It Happened

The story of V-2 ended up Down Under is an intriguing one that involves science, politics and Cold War anxieties.
One of the captured V-2s in an Australian workshop.
Australia's two V-2s are currently in storage at an Australian War Memorial (AWM) facility in suburban Canberra.

"When they came out [to Australia] flocks of people crowded to view them and see these Nazi terror weapons," said Shane Casey, senior curator of military heraldry and technology at the AWM.

One is mostly complete. Its components were seized after the war and put together as part of Operation Backfire, a mission by the Allies to capture and test German military technology.

"When the Allies conquered Germany, they found largely disassembled rockets or rockets ready to be assembled," Mr Casey said.

The Meillerwagen trailer accompanying the V-2, which was used to raise the rockets onto launch pads, is one of the few surviving examples of the technology.

The other V-2, which left London's docks aboard the vessel Karamea in February 1947, is today in bits, which are themselves in disrepair. It was shipped to Australia primarily as a museum piece, and little is known about its origins.

"There was some confusion as to whether it was destined for the Australian War Memorial or whether it was destined for the RAAF at Woomera. There seems to have been some dissension in official channels about that."

The missile was trucked around the country as part of a fundraising mission, and video shows it outside Old Parliament House. One of the purposes of having the rockets in Australia was to boost public interest in science, especially the emerging field of space research.

In 1948, the media was invited to view the more complete V-2 at Salisbury, where scientists had been inspecting it for design clues. That work was part of efforts to develop a local rocket program for defence - a project that also included the Woomera range. At some point over the next few years, it was painted with a different colour scheme. The trail goes cold until 1954, when the rocket was put on display at a Salisbury school and at the Mallala air show.

By the late 60s, Australia became the third nation to design and launch a satellite to orbit the earth. Design work on Australia’s first satellite began in early 1967 as a joint venture between the Weapons Research Establishment (WRE) and the University of Adelaide. With, The US and the UK providing assistance on the project, including the US Department of Defense, NASA, and the UK’s Ministry of Technology.

Queenslander UFO Researcher Needs Your Help!

GYMPIE region residents are being asked to report their stories about UFO
sightings onto a website so Australian researchers can "make sense of them".

Brisbane-based researcher and UFO Research Queensland president Sheryl
Gottschall said her organisation had been documenting UFO sightings in
Queensland since 1956 and had now begun transferring its records to its website.

So far, sightings going back to 1998 have been uploaded. Earlier ones are still
to be transferred.

"We're hoping to bring sightings completely up to date," Ms Gottschall said.

"And we're joining an Adelaide researcher who is compiling a comprehensive
list of Australian-wide sightings, including as yet unrecorded ones.

"So we're asking people who have seen UFOs - past or current - to report their
experience through our website, www.uforg.asn. au; or via email at
info@uforg.asn.au; or they can phone me on (07) 3376 1780."

To view Australian-wide sightings, which may also include local sightings,
log onto project1947.com/kbcat/kbmoreintoz.htm.

In a letter printed in The Gympie Times last Wednesday, Ms Gottschall asked locals to report UFO sightings, but has not yet had any new reports, she said. (HERE)

Australia’s Incredible UFO Cover Up Story

2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the “Westall Incident” and still there are no satisfactory explanations of what happened that day.

It was 11 AM on April 6, 1966, when Australia’s most famous mass UFO sighting took place and when it did, students, teachers and other faculty members from Westall High School, along with members of the general public claim to have all witnessed the event, which was three metallic objects fly stealthily and silently through the sky, then land smoothly and leave quickly.

And this all during the day light.

After this incredible sighting, several eye witnesses claim men in dark suits (a prominent theme in major UFO sightings) warned them about speaking about what they had witnessed to anyone.

The warnings, however, did not deter some people from speaking out though, about the profound and mind blowing experience they had just witnessed.

Clarification: Mysterious Light Appears In Lightning Storm And Vanishes, In The Australian Capital of Canberra Was Just Video Editing Not An Anomaly

An Australian YouTuber playing around with video-editing software accidentally created a UFO hoax that was viewed hundreds of thousands of times and sucked in several news outlets. Journalists consulted astronomers and meteorologists, and reported that the unexplained light in the sky was probably ball lightning. Really, it was just a composite someone whipped up in Blender and After Effects.  / YouTuber Tries Video Editing for the First Time, Accidentally Creates UFO Hoax

Last week i uploaded a video here that depicted a large ball of light in the sky exploding into a doughnut. I didn't intend for it to be taken seriously, but i made an error in judgement and titled the video as if it was real. Because of this the video went viral. It was reported on by the abc & canberratimes among many others. It was even in the paper.
What happened is 2 days prior to uploading the video, i bought after effects. I wanted to learn how to do video editing and whatnot. I use photoshop on a daily basis, so i'm not new to the process of image editing. The worst thing to come out of this is that i caused Canberra astronomer, Dr Brad Tucker and Senior forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology Sean Carson to take time out of their day to talk about the video. I'm extremely sorry for that. I messed up bad.
During the week the video has been live i have refused to say anything about it or respond to the many journalists trying to get in contact with me. I honestly didn't know how to respond. I also did not license or monitise the video. I have posted a second video explaining how the first video was made.
Once again, i did not mean for this to happen. I just hoped it would get a few laughs. I'm sorry if this has caused any grievances.

Mysterious Light Appears In Lightning Storm And Vanishes, In The Australian Capital of Canberra

The video uploaded to YouTube last night, claims to show a circle or donut-shaped light appearing in the Canberra sky during a storm.

Australian National University astronomer Brad Tucker said the red and green light which glowed faintly in the background was "characteristic of an aurora" however believed this time it was ball lightning.

"An aurora is when energy from the sun hits the earth's atmosphere, the energy rubs the earth's atmosphere with friction and charges the gas," he said.

"But the problem is there was no activity from the sun, it was cloudy, we can't see the aurora, so it doesn't really fit."

Dr Tucker said in this case, the energy to create an aurora probably came from the thunderstorm itself.

"The same activity that causes an aurora, can actually happen inside our atmosphere if you have a storm with a lot of electrical charge that is rubbing against the gases in our atmosphere, causing it to grow that green or red colour," he said.

"Sometimes, if you get a really interesting occurrence, you create something called 'ball lightning'.
"Normally lightning strikes up and down hitting the ground, but ball lightning is a weird thing where it appears as a ball explosion, sometimes it can even move around in the sky."

Ball lightning had been reported to occur "more often in Australia than elsewhere".

"[But] there are lots of weird natural phenomenon that happens everywhere," Dr Tucker said.
"In Norway there's this weird appearance that happens every Autumn for a few weeks that causes weird UFO lights, but the lights happen regularly like clockwork."

Dr Tucker said he felt fairly certain extraterrestrial creatures could be ruled out as the cause of the light.

"I don't think it's aliens," he said.

"It's always hard to discredit aliens, but I think they would probably visit somewhere more active than Canberra coming back from holidays.

"It's probably not Photoshop either. Everything kind of fits and it seems right.

"Someone probably just got lucky, back from the holidays a little bit bored and saw an interesting storm, it's the only interesting thing going on in Canberra right now."

Forecaster Sean Carson said while he was speculating, he agreed that the light could be ball lightning.
"It's pretty amazing, no doubt about it," he said.

"There were obviously thunderstorms at the time, so lightning is all I can think of."

If you see an UFO, don't call the RAAF

IF you happen upon a weird flying object, possibly not of this world, do not bother calling the air force.

WHERE once the RAAF would investigate reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) - which it terms unusual aerial sightings (UAS) - it now refers such reports to specialist UFO watchers.

That is unless it has defence, security or public safety implications, which could include crashing aircraft or space debris falling to earth.

Defence instructions relating to UAS - released under freedom of information and published on the defence website - say its UFO function officially ended in 1996.

"Scientific records suggested there was no compelling reason for the RAAF to continue to devote resources to recording and investigating of UAS," one document says.

But that apparently has not got through to the public, with the RAAF issuing fresh instructions to duty officers at air bases such as Richmond.

"Members of the community who seek to report a UAS to RAAF personnel will be referred to a civil UFO research organisation in the first instance," it says in a document dated July 2015.

It provides a list of known UFO organisations. Reports of burning aircraft or space debris should be referred to police or civil aviation authorities.

Conspiracist Claims He Has Evidence The Australian Government is Working With ETs?

A PALMERSTON UFO boffin says he has new evidence the Government is collaborating with extra terrestrials as part of a grand conspiracy, which will ultimately cost millions of lives.

Nick – who refused to give his surname on the grounds the Federal Government, Australian Defence Force and US Marines might track him down – said he had spotted “shadows” in the sky, which appeared immediately after looking into the sun.

Nick said the shadows were normally invisible to the naked eye, but were “clearly visible” in the photos he supplied exclusively to the NT News . (STORY HERE)

“Look, I’m not really a conspiracy theorist, and I’m not really into the internet, but I’ve done a bit of reading, and there’s a lot of information about this online,” he said.

Nick said evidence of the extraterrestrial phenomenon has been obscured by “chemtrails” put across the sky by the US and Australian militaries.

“I don’t know if you noticed, but about a year ago the sky changed colour a bit,” he said.

“I think they’ve put something up there to stop us seeing whatever it is that’s coming towards us. I just thought I should let everyone know.”

An ADF spokeswoman said: “As far as I am aware, we have no involvement with this kind of activity.”

But Nick said army helicopters had been flying over his house ever since he captured evidence of the “conspiracy”.

The Defence spokeswoman denied the claims. “The helicopters are conducting routine training,” she said.

Optometrist Tony Hill advised against staring into the sun, even if there was the promise of learning about the paranormal.

“It does a lot of retinal damage,” he said.

Nick, however, said he would continue to research the phenomenon.

X files opened at Cardwell UFO Festival - ABC NEWS AUSTRALIA

From aliens to men in black, flying saucers and strange lights, 'UFOlogists' gathered to share their stories and theories at the inaugural Cardwell UFO Festival.

Former UFO sceptic Molly Dunn says she was converted when she saw a hairy alien at the end of her bed. (ABC Local: Isaac Egan)

"UFO fanatic" Brad Booth says the public has been fed lies, but says the truth is out there. (ABC Local: Isaac Egan)

Daryl Fig says he saw a flying saucer once and claims the government saw it too. (ABC Local: Isaac Egan)

Archie Dunn says he was witness to disappearing "men in black" who were "too perfect to be real" (ABC Local: Isaac Egan)

The monster at the end of my bed

Molly Dunn says her first sighting was when she moved from England to New Zealand in 1953.
"It was hairy and it was on the end of my bed and its eyes spoke to me and I was absolutely scared I nearly wet my pants," she said.
"It said to me 'I can be any size or shape want'.
"A few days later I thought 'what a silly thing to say'.
"I never thought I would see anything like that in my lifetime."

Lies and conspiracies

Cardwell resident Brad Booth proudly boasts of being a "UFO fanatic" but says on a number of issues the public has been fed "a pack of lies."
He says flying saucers are manmade and claims bigfoot is a homeless man.
"I know a guy up here who is an Aboriginal, is about six feet tall; I bought a very high-powered telescope to view him," he said.
"There is also one near the Innisfail tip, you smell him before you see him."
Mr Booth says the bigfoot footprint discoveries in Canada were faked.
"They were big feet, but there were all these screw holes underneath," he said.
"One guy was offered $10,000 to put the suit on and run around in the forest just to prove that these existed."

Burnt into my memory

Darrell Figg says he once spotted an unidentifiable flying object and the sight has stuck with him ever since.
"I was driving back from Ingham to Trebonne and... I spotted this little silver object sitting in the sky and I could see that it was isolated, because every time it turned the sun hit the side and gave it a glint of silver," he said.
"I got a good idea what it is... it ain't man made, that's for sure.
"It is a feeling you'll never forget, it is bewildering... it is hard to explain, but there has got to be something else out there, we can't be the only ones around."

I saw the men in black

Archie Dunn says he and his wife witnessed disappearing "men in black" who were robotic in movement and too perfect looking to be real.
"We were in the Auckland Museum and we went into the cafe for a sandwich and Molly my wife drew my attention to two men sitting near us," he said.
"They were at least six feet tall and dressed in black and absolutely immaculate.
"They got up from the table, didn't seem to speak to each other, they walked down steps across the lawn, and all of a sudden they started to shimmer and disappeared - just like that."
