V-2 Rockets In Australia? It Happened

The story of V-2 ended up Down Under is an intriguing one that involves science, politics and Cold War anxieties.

Australia's two V-2s are currently in storage at an Australian War Memorial (AWM) facility in suburban Canberra.

"When they came out [to Australia] flocks of people crowded to view them and see these Nazi terror weapons," said Shane Casey, senior curator of military heraldry and technology at the AWM.

One is mostly complete. Its components were seized after the war and put together as part of Operation Backfire, a mission by the Allies to capture and test German military technology.

"When the Allies conquered Germany, they found largely disassembled rockets or rockets ready to be assembled," Mr Casey said.

The Meillerwagen trailer accompanying the V-2, which was used to raise the rockets onto launch pads, is one of the few surviving examples of the technology.

The other V-2, which left London's docks aboard the vessel Karamea in February 1947, is today in bits, which are themselves in disrepair. It was shipped to Australia primarily as a museum piece, and little is known about its origins.

"There was some confusion as to whether it was destined for the Australian War Memorial or whether it was destined for the RAAF at Woomera. There seems to have been some dissension in official channels about that."

The missile was trucked around the country as part of a fundraising mission, and video shows it outside Old Parliament House. One of the purposes of having the rockets in Australia was to boost public interest in science, especially the emerging field of space research.



In 1948, the media was invited to view the more complete V-2 at Salisbury, where scientists had been inspecting it for design clues. That work was part of efforts to develop a local rocket program for defence - a project that also included the Woomera range. At some point over the next few years, it was painted with a different colour scheme. The trail goes cold until 1954, when the rocket was put on display at a Salisbury school and at the Mallala air show.

By the late 60s, Australia became the third nation to design and launch a satellite to orbit the earth. Design work on Australia’s first satellite began in early 1967 as a joint venture between the Weapons Research Establishment (WRE) and the University of Adelaide. With, The US and the UK providing assistance on the project, including the US Department of Defense, NASA, and the UK’s Ministry of Technology.

Russian Scientists Discover Secret Nazi Base in The Arctic!

"About 500 items of historical importance during the Second World War - in particular, gasoline cans and paper documents, bullets and personal care products, shoes with a swastika."  Press secretary of "Russian Arctic" national park Yulia Petrova has said about the findings.
 
Rumors about the existence of the base on the island of Alexandra Land went many decades. "Before that, it was about the only known from written sources, but now we have real evidence", - said a senior researcher at the National Park Evgeny Ermolov.
 
Experts believe that the secret base was built in 1942, on the direct orders of Adolf Hitler. Most likely, the Germans began to operate the facility in September 1943 and left in June 1944. The reason for folding mission scientists believe trichinosis - infected employees plant nematodes due to the use of raw meat of polar bears. Some members of the crew, scientists believe, died, and the survivors were evacuated seaplane BV-138 as part of a special rescue mission. UFO Report File from German intelligence

The universe, aka/the final frontier, nevertheless provides boundless room for speculation. This will by no means satisfy stubborn UFO adepts. For instance, the editor of the Web site grenz/wissenschaft aktuell [boundary/science blog spot] dug up another UFO file from the Foreign Intelligence Service [the Bundesnachrichtendienst or BND] that is supposed to remain sealed until 2021. File B206/1914 from the Federal Archives in Coblenz is keeping the issue of extraterrestrials alive: On August 26, 1986, three officers working the night shift at the Puttgarten border control and ferry station observed an unidentified flying object hovering outside the window of their office. And with the thoroughness expected of Germans, one is quoted as saying: "Please initiate UFO procedure!"

Triangle UFO Above Germany Leaves Questions In Its Wake with Video

When a UFO video seems too good to be true -- is it?

We've pointed out many times how difficult it is to identify hoaxes among UFO photos and videos, and computer technology has just added to the confusion. With the right app or Photoshop elements, even youngsters can create and post real-looking, out-of-this-world UFOs to YouTube faster than you can say, "ET, phone home." But the footage doesn't always hold up under expert scrutiny.

Consider this recent example: A triangular UFO was reportedly videotaped over Kassel, Germany, on June 26 by a man who was taping his son playing in a park, reports the International Business Times.
 
Scott C. Waring, who runs the UFO Sightings Daily site, thinks it's the genuine article.
"The fact that the person blurred out the face of the kid and didn't get the UFO in the dead center of the video is what causes me to believe this is real," he said. "Also, the lighting and shading on the UFO matches that of the trees and the bars of [the] jungle gym."

But is that analysis enough to give this UFO the seal of approval? Other experts say no.
"There are two giveaway segments" that show the UFO is computer-generated, said Marc Dantonio, chief photo and video analyst for the Mutual UFO Network. "As the object is first seen, you notice that the cameraman shifts the camera up and down a bit. The object should not be affected by this motion at all."

Dantonio, who was featured on last month's Syfy Channel documentary, "Aliens on the Moon: The Truth Exposed," told The Huffington Post in an email that the triangular object in this Germany video should appear to move smoothly through the sky. "Its path, however, indicates anything but. As the camera moves, the object shifts in the sky in direct correlation to the movements of the camera.

"This shows me that this is a CG composition where the UFO flying in the sky was poorly tracked with ground objects. This happens several times," Dantonio wrote.

The cracks in the facade don't end there.
"It walks like a duck, it talks like a duck, but it's not a duck," says former FBI special agent Ben Hansen.

"The video incorporates the image of a classic triangle UFO, which witnesses often report as silently floating across the sky. The videographer got that part right. However, there are several major red flags that tell me this was a hoax," Hansen told HuffPost in an email.

"Although witnesses' reactions can vary greatly when seeing a shocking UFO event, this man appears extremely underwhelmed. I would expect a little more enthusiasm or effort to try and follow the craft when it emerges behind the trees. If he made efforts to follow it, I'd like to see that. We're led to believe that he puts down the camera and casually strolls away."

Hansen agrees with Dantonio that the video is most likely the product of CGI (computer-generated imagery).

"As much time as was spent on getting the movement of the UFO right, the editor was a little lazy on the details of what we call 'rotoscoping,'" Hansen said, describing what is probably the final blow to the video's authenticity. "Going frame by frame -- to tell the software program which objects the UFO needed to pass behind -- it appears they got a little sloppy."

Hansen explains that he magnified and lightened the image, shown below, and it "shows the corner of the UFO accidentally overlapping in front of the playground structure when it was supposed to be passing behind."

When it comes to UFO videos, you can't always believe what you think you're seeing.
